Opiod Overdose Prevention UAF

October 9, 2024 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Calling all who are passionate about harm reduction and overdose prevention! We are excited to share an upcoming learning opportunity for staff, community members, or students interested in medical/law enforcement/emergency service fields.
This will be an informational session about Nalmefene, brand name Opvee by the Indivior Educational Team. Opvee is similar to Narcan/Naloxone – it is an opioid overdose reversal medication and comes in the same nasal spray dispenser. There are some differences – its half-life is longer, it is created specifically to target synthetic opioids (like fentanyl), and has gone through a unique clinical testing system!

1:30-2:30pm
UAF BP Design Theatre (401 Usibelli) OR
Virtual – Microsoft Teams (link below).
Students are welcome, but we are not specifically advertising this event to students so as to not cause confusion between this and naloxone. This is information that can be considered as we improve our harm reduction practices. We are excited about the prospects that Opvee has for some of our rural areas because of the longer half-life, and will possibly be partnering with Opvee to have a supply of it here at ORCA for higher-risk populations. More information to come.
Let me know if you have any questions! You are welcome to share with any friends/colleagues or folks interested in overdose prevention.
