Join the ACLU of Alaska for “Don’t Look Back. Advocate Forward,” a training for formerly incarcerated people who are interested in advocating for systemic change within the criminal legal system. The training will cover the following: hands-on instruction and practice for effective meetings with policymakers, tips for testifying at public meetings, tips for writing letters and emails to policymakers, what is public advocacy, including the difference between advocacy and lobbying, what power citizens have within the public process, the importance of the personal story and tips for telling it for the most impact, how to follow the legislative process from home, identifying action items, and moving forward to implement them. Lunch will be provided. Training is available in person or via Zoom on Tuesday, September 12th from 9am to 4pm. Those attending remotely will receive a door dash code to order lunch, if available in your area.
