At this public screening of the 25-minute documentary “At Home/In Home: Rural Alaska Childcare in Crisis,” (
vimeo.com/814699053) you will see and hear in this brief film directly from Kotzebue families, leaders, and providers and from an economist how the lack of childcare affects a rural community, and affects Alaska as a whole. Multiple legislators, childcare providers, early childhood advocacy organizations, and Alaska Public Media, as well as Dept. of Health (DOH) Commissioner Heidi Hedberg will participate in a dialogue after the film about what has happened since the film’s release and how Alaska can solve the childcare crisis.
There will be on-site childcare provided by Hillcrest Children’s Center, and there will be dinner from Ray’s Place and kid-friendly snacks, along with non-alcoholic beverages. Doors open for food, seating, childcare, visiting, etc. at 5:00 pm and then program and film screening begin at 5:30 pm. We encourage you to arrive early. This is a family-friendly, breastfeeding-friendly event.
Also, we still need additional individuals, businesses, organizations, Tribes, and foundations to join as co-sponsors to help make this happen! (e.g. refreshments, plane ticket to bring Bailey from Kotzebue, outreach support)
