Prevention Month: Telling the Prevention Story

October 1 @ 12:00 am - October 31 @ 11:30 pm

Prevention Month: Telling the Prevention Story

October is Substance Use & Misuse Prevention Month, and this year SAMHSA’s theme is Telling the Prevention Story. Prevention isn’t just about avoiding a crisis, it’s about strengthening the things that help individuals, families, and communities thrive in the first place. That’s exactly the kind of work Recover Alaska believes in: building a healthier relationship with alcohol across our state by getting ahead of harm before it happens, not just responding after the fact.

Throughout October, we’ll be sharing resources from SAMHSA’s Prevention Month toolkit, including facts, stats, and stories that highlight how prevention shows up here in Alaska. We’ll also be spotlighting Choose Connection, our prevention campaign with The Alliance, which focuses on building the kinds of relationships and support systems that help prevent substance misuse before it starts.

We’d also love to hear from you. If prevention has shown up in your life, whether through a program, a conversation, or a personal choice, consider sharing your story using #MyPreventionStory and #RecoverAlaska. Every story adds to the bigger picture of why this work matters.
