Lunch and Learn: The Science of Opioid Addictions and the Prescription Opioid and Heroin Crisis: a Public Health Approach to an Epidemic

Join North Star Behavioral Health on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 for presentations by Dr. Jay Butler, Chief Medical Officer for the State of Alaska and Dr. Joshua Sonkiss of Anchorage Community Mental Health Services with opportunities for discussion. The event begins at 11:00AM at the DeBarr Residential Treatment Center, 1500 DeBarr Circle in Anchorage. Participants will be able to explain the difference between tolerance, withdrawal, dependence, and addiction and be able to apply evidence based approaches in diagnosis, treatment and referral for opioid disorder. Participants will also be able to understand how the reward circuit of the brain functions in opioid use disorder. AMA PRA Category 1 Credits will be offered.
