Not Buying It Advisory Group

The Not Buying It youth advisory group will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 3:00pm AKSDT.

The advisory group is open to high school-aged students who are interested in learning about media arts and public communications.

Participants will gain experience in media strategy and development–from concept to final content–while contributing to the Not Buying It campaign for the State of Alaska’s Tobacco Prevention and Control Program. The primary goal of the campaign is to prevent youth from using nicotine and to educate Alaska youth on the harms of all tobacco products, including cigarettes, smokeless tobacco (including chew and iqmik)and e-cigarettes.

Students must have parental permission and a signed media consent form to participate. There may be travel opportunities and, if the student is willing, they could be filmed or photographed for the campaign.

The group will meet regularly from January through June 2020. Select content developed by the group will be shared through the Not Buying It campaign and showcased at the June Tobacco Prevention and Control Training.
Participation includes but is not limited to:

  • Reviewing Not Buying It campaign content and providing feedback
  • Group activities to help develop ideas, language and themes for media content
  • The opportunity to participate in videos and photos
  • Contributing to tobacco use education and youth prevention across Alaska
