The Alliance: LGBTQ+ Competency

December 9, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Q & A (Queers and Allies) provides LGBTQ competency training to individuals, professionals, communities, and organizations across Alaska. Participants who complete the training will become familiar with the complexities of LGBTQ identities as well as understand the history of trauma and systems of oppression that has shaped the LGBTQ community and continues to do so today. The purpose of this training is to help create safe places and safe people who understand the need to share policies, practices and allyship that promote inclusiveness and advances equity for members of the LGBTQ community.

This training will be facilitated by Tammie Willis, M.M., M.Ed. Tammie has lived and worked within the LGBTQ community for over thirty years as both a member of the community and as an advocate/activist.  She got her start in LGBTQ activism working with Act Up in Washington DC as a response to the AIDS crisis that nearly wiped out an entire generation of gay men.  She expanded her activism to include LGBTQ equality and the fight for gay marriage.  She has also spent the last 20 years helping individuals, professionals, organizations, and communities develop LGBTQ competencies that have led to changes in policies and practices to be more supportive and inclusive of members of the LGBTQ community.  She currently continues her advocacy work in Anchorage where she lives with her wife, three cats and dog.

Please reach out to The Alliance coordinator, Jess Limbird ([email protected]), to sign up for this virtual training.
